The Virgin is shown standing, crowned, with a serene expression imbued with the gravity characteristic of works from this region. She holds the Infant Jesus on her left arm.
The drapery is rendered with great virtuosity: the cloak forms an elegant apron over the front of the dress and falls in folds.
The delicate blue and red coloring that remains suggests the richness of the original polychromy and contributes to the sculpture's vitality.

The work is fully in keeping with the stylistic production of workshops in northeastern France, on the border between the Champagne region and Lorraine, also reflected in the choice of stone.

In good condition, this sculpture shows some old restorations and a few small chips and losses visible at the base and edges of the drapery. The child's head was broken in two and restored.
