Designed by french illustrator pierre gabriel and printed in paris by p. G. Thierry, the poster is a wonderful example of post-war french commercial graphic design.

executed as a color lithograph, the poster features a playful sun-tanned figure drinking directly from an oversized bottle of vivor against a vivid turquoise-blue background. The bold typography, simplified forms and strong contrasting colors are characteristic of french advertising graphics of the period and give the composition its unmistakable 1950s aesthetic.

the poster is signed “pierre gabriel” within the image, while the printer’s imprint “editions p. G. Thierry – paris” appears along the lower edge. Created on an unusually large scale, the lithograph has a particularly strong visual presence and works as much as a decorative work of graphic art today as it originally did as an advertising poster.
