The wooden frame has hand-painted German script which reads Ehrenscheibe 1933 on the top, with the lower portion inscribed Gew. v. R Filser, indicating that the target was won by a marksman named R Filser at a traditional club shooting match in 1933.
The reverse of the target is unpainted raw wood with an oval ink stamp reading: K.K. Schutzenverein Lengfeld 1928. The "K.K." stands for Kleinkaliber meaning small bore rifles or pistols. "Lengfeld" is the location of the club. Lengfeld is a district in the city of Wurzburg, Bavaria, Germany. The handwritten number typically refers to a serial or inventory number assigned to the target board or a sequence marker used during a shooting match. See less
