Overview
An exceptional, monumental Grand Tour-style patinated bronze portrait bust depicting the famous Benevento Head (traditionally identified as an idealized Apollo or a Victorious Athlete), after the ancient Roman original. Standing 21 inches tall and weighing 47.2 lbs, this piece has a commanding presence that speaks to its heavy, traditional hot-cast bronze fabrication.
Materials & Craftsmanship
The bronze head showcases a rich, classical Neapolitan/Florentine deep-brown to matte-black patination. The high points of the tightly coiled curls and facial features reveal warm, golden-bronze undertones from decades of gentle indoor handling.
The bust sits on a magnificent, custom-turned historical column base, hand-carved from a single block of premium Italian Giallo Siena (Siena Yellow) marble. The stone displays its signature, breathtaking brecciated network of brilliant golden ochre, cream fragments, and dark charcoal veins.
Construction & Assembly
True to traditional European craftsmanship, the bronze bust is anchored to the marble base via an internal threaded metal tie-rod assembly. The raw, manually-filed interface on the underside of the neck rests flush against the stone top. The bottom of the marble includes a protective felt lining to shield delicate surfaces.
Note: No visible foundry stamps or maker's marks, which is typical of fine, unbranded workshop castings from the classical revival period.

The bronze patina is beautiful and well-preserved with a soft, natural indoor dust accumulation in the hair recesses. The solid Giallo Siena marble pedestal is structurally sound with standard, smooth wear consistent with age and no catastrophic structural fractures. The internal tie-rod exhibits a completely normal, slight age-related mechanical play/wobble typical of heavy two-part assemblies. less
