A phenomenal pair of oversized art deco slipper / lounge chairs, produced in France c. 1930s.
The chairs are newly reupholstered in emerald green velvet that complements the warm, naturally radiant elmwood legs. Generous proportions and voluptuous curves make for an exceptionally comfortable sit, while the elongated rear supports rise dramatically behind the seat to suspend the upholstered backrest. This combination gives the chairs a sculptural profile equally at home in Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, or eclectic interiors.
The pair has been fully restored, with new foam and fabric over structurally solid alderwood frames. The legs have been refinished in a semi-gloss lacquer that complements the soft sheen of the velvet.
While the design has been attributed to Paul Frankl, our conversations with the prior owner indicate French origin.
