A major figure in post-war French ceramics, Jacques Blin (1920-1995) founded his workshop in the early 1950s and developed a highly personal style, combining clean lines, muted glazes, and incised decorations populated with stylized animals and figures.

The cylindrical form is covered with an ochre glaze nuanced with brown and black, decorated with fish and mermaids drawn directly into the clay. Hatching, dots, and engraved lines enliven their silhouettes and create a graphic frieze around the entire circumference of the piece. The ivory-glazed interior provides a luminous contrast to the ochre glaze on the exterior.

The incised work and variations in the enamel give each piece its unique character and are among the most recognizable elements of Jacques Blin's work in the 1950s and 1960s.
