Likely dating from the 1890-1920s these are consistent with the late Meiji to early Taishō-period Japanese export wares. Decorated in underglaze cobalt with freely painted landscape and floral motifs, the heavy body, substantial, unglazed foot ring, irregular decoration and visible kiln-related imperfections indicate traditional manufacture rather than modern transfer printing. They are heavy porcelain or porcelainous stoneware rather than ordinary earthenware and in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. See less
