This vintage devotional statue is crafted from gilt bronze or copper and depicts a seated Buddha, likely representing Maitreya (the Future Buddha) or a similar revered figure. The statue is richly detailed with high-relief carving and features polychrome (cold-painted) accents.
The figure is seated in a meditative lotus position (padmasana) upon a tiered, ornate base. Its right hand is raised in the Abhaya Mudra (the gesture of fearlessness and protection), while the left hand rests in the lap in a meditative gesture. The Buddha wears an elaborate, tall, multi-pointed crown and is adorned with a beaded silver-toned necklace, armbands, and flowing robes.
Surrounding the figure are stylized, curving green stalks bearing large red lotus blossoms, creating a decorative mandorla effect. The figure rests on a detailed lotus throne with a beaded edge, which is further elevated by a multi-tiered, stepped base. The sides of this base are decorated with a frieze of small, seated figures alternating with pillars and flanked by two horses. The back of the statue shows the reverse of the crown, the detailed hair, and the smooth drape of the robe.
