Presenting an authentic, vintage 1990s Maitland-Smith blue and white porcelain reticulated basket bowl. This exquisite piece seamlessly blends classic Chinoiserie elegance with master-level artisan craftsmanship, making it a timeless centerpiece for traditional, transitional, or Grandmillennial interior design.
True to the historic Maitland-Smith production process, this bowl features an intricate, hand-cut geometric lattice (reticulation) across the body, beautifully framed by a softly scalloped rim. The exterior showcases a highly tactile "ridge and groove" fluted texture, with crisp cobalt blue vertical stripes meticulously hand-painted within the valleys of each ridge. The interplay of light through the openwork lattice and the rich depth of the cobalt glaze creates a striking visual presence.
This porcelain basket is in excellent vintage condition. Free of structural chips, cracks, or repairs. As expected with authentic, bench-made artisan porcelain, there are a few minor, original artisan paint "splashes" or stray brush strokes inside the bowl. Rather than flaws, these are a charming testament to the hand-painted nature of the piece.
The base of the foot ring bears the stamped "Hand Made" mark characteristic of Maitland-Smith's specialized 1990s porcelain runs. While the company was headquartered in North Carolina, their high-end porcelain lines from this era were meticulously crafted by master ceramicists in the brand's dedicated regional workshops in Thailand and China. The organic, slight variations in the brushwork—including these internal artisan painter marks—and the exact physical proportions securely verify this as a genuine, highly collectible Maitland-Smith release.

There are no chips, cracks, flea bites, hairlines, or post-production repairs anywhere on the porcelain or the lattice openwork. The cobalt blue glaze remains vibrant with a high-gloss finish. These occurred during production under the original glaze and are a normal characteristic of hand-painted Maitland-Smith pieces, rather than flaws or damage. less
