A patchwork of teal, rust, olive, blush and cream surrounds a drawn pink flower, with a black form anchoring the lower left. The title, meaning straight thread without seams, fits the way the pieces flow together without hard edges. Presented in a wood floater frame.
Fresh and colorful, it suits a bedroom, entry or reading corner, and can be grouped with other framed works from the same series. This piece will be carefully packed for safe shipping.
Medium: Mixed media on board (wood floater frame), 2022. Dimensions (height x width x depth): 19 1/4 × 19 1/4 × 1 1/2 in.
Like much of Corcelle's work, the surface is built up in layers of paint, collaged paper, graphite and scratched lines, so the work reads one way from across the room and another up close. Expect small discoveries of texture, handwriting and color the longer you look, which makes it a rewarding piece for everyday viewing.
Christiane Corcelle is a French-American mixed media artist based in Massachusetts. Her intuitive, layered practice spans painting, printmaking, collage, and de-collage, building richly textured surfaces that invite close exploration. Guided by curiosity and openness to process, she transforms color, shape, and found materials into works that are both dynamic and contemplative.
Drawing inspiration from global experiences and cultural textures, Corcelle has exhibited widely across the United States and internationally, including shows in France, Vietnam, China, Cuba, Peru, and Azerbaijan. Her work is represented in public and private collections worldwide, among them the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the Boston Public Library, the Art Complex Museum, the Contemporary Art Center, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association in Hanoi, the Danang Fine Arts Museum, the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, Universidade Feevale in Brazil, Las Casas de las Américas in Cuba, and the Permanent Collection of Château d’Orquevaux in Orquevaux, France.
She also designed 60 Years of North American Prints, the Boston Printmakers’ award-winning publication.
