Patches of pink, olive green, sky blue, orange and black fit together like a patchwork quilt or a village seen from above. A small black ladder stands near the center, with red ovals, white lines and handwritten marks drifting across the surface. The colors are warm and saturated, yet the composition feels organized and cheerful, with a strong sense of place.
Square in format and full of character, Ladders to Home would brighten a living room, kitchen or family space, and gives a vintage-modern room a joyful, handmade focal point. The wood-toned edges and layered texture add warmth. This piece will be carefully packed for safe shipping.
Medium: Mixed media on canvas, 2025. Dimensions (height x width x depth): 30 1/2 × 30 1/2 × 2 in.
Like much of Corcelle's work, the surface is built up in layers of paint, collaged paper, graphite and scratched lines, so the painting reads one way from across the room and another up close. Expect small discoveries of texture, handwriting and color the longer you look, which makes it a work that keeps rewarding everyday viewing.
Christiane Corcelle is a French-American mixed media artist based in Massachusetts. Her intuitive, layered practice spans painting, printmaking, collage, and de-collage, building richly textured surfaces that invite close exploration. Guided by curiosity and openness to process, she transforms color, shape, and found materials into works that are both dynamic and contemplative.
Drawing inspiration from global experiences and cultural textures, Corcelle has exhibited widely across the United States and internationally, including shows in France, Vietnam, China, Cuba, Peru, and Azerbaijan. Her work is represented in public and private collections worldwide, among them the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the Boston Public Library, the Art Complex Museum, the Contemporary Art Center, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association in Hanoi, the Danang Fine Arts Museum, the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, Universidade Feevale in Brazil, Las Casas de las Américas in Cuba, and the Permanent Collection of Château d’Orquevaux in Orquevaux, France.
She also designed 60 Years of North American Prints, the Boston Printmakers’ award-winning publication.
