Gestural swirls of red, golden yellow and pink dance across a pale, chalky ground, with black marks and striped details breaking up the composition. Created on BFK paper and presented in a natural wood frame with a generous mat, this piece feels airy, lively and spontaneous, like a few lines of music written in paint.
Part of the artist's Orquevaux series, this framed work is ready to display and suits a bedroom, hallway or reading corner. The warm wood frame and pale mat make it easy to place with light interiors, vintage pieces or gallery-style arrangements. This piece will be carefully packed for safe shipping.
Medium: Mixed media on BFK paper (wood frame), 2024. Dimensions (height x width x depth): 36 × 29 × 1 1/4 in.
Like much of Corcelle's work, the surface is built up in layers of paint, collage, graphite and scratched lines on handmade-feeling BFK paper, so the work reads one way from across the room and another up close. Expect small discoveries of texture and color the longer you look, and the frame and mat make it ready to display.
Christiane Corcelle is a French-American mixed media artist based in Massachusetts. Her intuitive, layered practice spans painting, printmaking, collage, and de-collage, building richly textured surfaces that invite close exploration. Guided by curiosity and openness to process, she transforms color, shape, and found materials into works that are both dynamic and contemplative.
Drawing inspiration from global experiences and cultural textures, Corcelle has exhibited widely across the United States and internationally, including shows in France, Vietnam, China, Cuba, Peru, and Azerbaijan. Her work is represented in public and private collections worldwide, among them the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the Boston Public Library, the Art Complex Museum, the Contemporary Art Center, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association in Hanoi, the Danang Fine Arts Museum, the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, Universidade Feevale in Brazil, Las Casas de las Américas in Cuba, and the Permanent Collection of Château d’Orquevaux in Orquevaux, France.
She also designed 60 Years of North American Prints, the Boston Printmakers’ award-winning publication.
