Accompanied by remarkable handwritten family provenance identifying the piece as having belonged to Agnes Jack and recording that it was given to her by a relative who was a sailor and was believed to have been made by him or a friend. A further period inscription records that Agnes Jack later gave the piece away in 1928, shortly before her death.
