An exceptional antique Swiss Black Forest hand-carved wooden musical compote, featuring an intricate openwork arrangement of edelweiss blossoms, sculptural foliage, and a beautifully carved central floral medallion. Dating to the early 20th century, circa 1910–1930, this distinctive piece combines traditional Alpine craftsmanship with the delightful surprise of a working wind-up music box.
The graceful, deeply carved flowers and sweeping leaves create an almost lace-like effect, while the rich, dark wood finish accentuates the depth and artistry of the carving. Elevated on a pedestal base, the compote has a wonderfully sculptural presence, making it equally appealing as a decorative centerpiece or collectible musical antique.
The built-in musical mechanism remains functional and plays a melody identified as the traditional German love song Ach, wie ist’s möglich dann. The underside retains its original paper label reading Albert Schild, Sculptures, Interlaken, Switzerland, along with a handwritten inscription.
