He was born in Menen, Belgium, and died in Harelbeke. This painting is entitled “The Meeting Place” (Le rendez-vous), created in 1977 and exhibited at the renowned Guillaume Campo Gallery in Antwerp, Belgium, as evidenced by the original exhibition labels on the back of the canvas. The painting is oil on panel and is characterized by a masterly realistic treatment of the figures with strong facial and clothing details that refer to historical and fantasy motifs. The mysterious composition with figures in exotic clothing, a surrealistic landscape and a female figure in the glow of golden ornament gives the work a captivating and symbolic meaning. The painting is signed and dated in the lower left corner. It is set in the original wooden frame, which beautifully complements its historicizing aesthetic.
