This is a rectangular lithographed tin advertising sign reproducing the cover of the 1894 sheet music for Fare You Well, Daisy Bell by Harry Dacre. It depicts a suited gentleman riding an upright safety bicycle in an outdoor landscape, with corner mounting holes and publisher details for Francis, Day and Hunter at the bottom.
Following the monumental success of his 1892 music hall standard Daisy Bell, English songwriter Harry Dacre penned this 1894 sequel. Publisher Francis, Day and Hunter heavily promoted popular sheet music throughout the United Kingdom and the United States using promotional posters and lithographed tin signs displayed in music shops and public venues. Today, genuine Victorian advertising signs with bicycle and music hall themes are highly sought after by collectors of cycling ephemera and vintage tobacciana-era store displays.
