This dramatic mixed-media work combines a sculptural, hand-painted horse with an expressive metal-wire mane, all incorporated into a substantial rustic wood shadow-box frame.
The horse projects dramatically from the frame, extending approximately 10 inches in depth and giving the piece an unusually strong sculptural presence. Rich layers of chestnut, russet, black and warm coppery tones create depth and character across the horse’s face and neck, while individually shaped metal elements form the wonderfully expressive mane.
The substantial wood frame complements the sculpture;’s rustic, handcrafted character and allows the horse to appear almost as though it is emerging through the frame. Viewed from the side, the considerable depth and construction of the piece become especially apparent.
