An impressive matched pair of large patinated bronze sculptures depicting majestic stags standing alert upon naturalistically modeled rocky outcrops.

Each stag is rendered with a proud, animated stance, finely modeled musculature, textured coat and dramatically branching antlers. The rocky bronze bases feature additional naturalistic details and rest upon handsome stepped black marble plinths.

Both sculptures bear signatures in the cast after celebrated French animalier sculptor Jules Moigniez. These are later castings based upon Moigniez’s acclaimed 19th-century models and are not represented as lifetime casts.

Jules Moigniez was one of the leading French animalier sculptors of the 19th century. He became particularly admired for his energetic and highly detailed depictions of birds, hunting dogs, deer and other wildlife. His compositions remain highly sought after for their combination of anatomical observation, movement and decorative presence.

Their substantial scale and combined weight give these sculptures tremendous visual impact. They would make striking statement pieces for a library, executive office, lodge, entry hall or traditionally appointed interior.
