This unique and versatile matching pair of vintage Swedish mid-century modern display cabinets was produced circa 1960. The cabinets are solid and well-crafted from teak wood with beautiful grain and a rich, warm hue and feature clean, elegant lines with a restrained rectilinear form characteristic of Scandinavian modern design. The set has a distinctive low profile and compact proportions, with a rarely seen configuration that combines glass display cases over concealed storage. Each cabinet is constructed in two separate pieces, allowing for easier transport.
Each stepback upper hutch features two sliding glass doors that open to a divided display interior with two adjustable and removable glass shelves. Each lower cabinet combines a large hinged-door compartment on the left with one adjustable and removable shelf and five drawers on the right. The top drawers are locking, with one working brass key included. One cabinet retains its original “Ahlbergs” retailer labels on the reverse.
CONDITION
Excellent vintage condition with wear consistent with age including minor surface scratches and variance expected with normal use over time. Minor age fading to tops of lower cabinets largely hidden by upper hutches. Some minor chipping along the edge of one sliding glass door. Extra glass shelves could easily be added to the upper hutches for additional display area. One working key included.
