Monumental handmade wooden fraternity paddle dated "FALL 89," featuring an elongated tapered blade, turned handle, and circular wooden adornment near the top. Both sides are personalized with collegiate lettering, names, initials, crests, and fraternity imagery, including "JOHNNY," "LC," Tau Kappa Epsilon insignia, and Pi Delta Tau decoration. Applied period ephemera includes Austin Nichols Wild Turkey and Budweiser labels, adding to the paddle's individualized character. Tau Kappa Epsilon was founded in 1899 at Illinois Wesleyan University, and personalized fraternity paddles became enduring examples of American collegiate folk art, commonly incorporating members' names, chapter symbols, dates, and social memorabilia.
