This is a charming vintage Chinese gilt bronze sculpture depicting two young herders riding on the back of a water buffalo. The buffalo is cast in a sturdy, standing pose with a textured body and curled horns, finished with a rich, dark bronze patina. The two boys, which are highlighted with gold gilding, are depicted in relaxed, playful postures, one sitting upright and the other leaning forward. The piece is a classic representation of pastoral life in traditional Chinese art.
