A beautifully crafted Chinese rectangular box made of dark, dense wood, likely Black Zitan (Heitan). The box features a hinged lid that opens to reveal a spacious, unlined interior. The top of the lid is exquisitely decorated with a carved, pale green jade (or hardstone) appliqué, depicting two playful Buddhist lions (foo dogs) with a brocade ball, a traditional symbol of joy and good fortune. A sophisticated piece for storing jewelry, seals, or other small treasures.
