Original mid-century modernist expressionist landscape/cityscape study on a vintage Macy's canvas panel, measuring 16 inches wide by 12 inches high. Estimated 1960s–1970s. The work features an architectural skyline set along a river or canal bank, anchored by a multi-arched bridge in vibrant magenta and rose tones. Executed with dry-brush, scumbled layers and impasto line work, the composition combines vivid shades of sky blue, forest green, warm ochre, and deep black structural outlines over reflective, water-like foreground textures. The multi-arched stone bridge depicted resembles High Bridge, the historic 1848 span over the Harlem River connecting Manhattan and the Bronx and New York City's oldest surviving major bridge. On the reverse, the panel retains its original vintage MACY'S "SUPRE-MACY" Artists Canvas Panel black-and-gold paper label from R.H. Macy & Co., Inc., New York, adding vintage charm and clear mid-century New York origin. Unframed; standard 16" × 12" size allows for straightforward custom matting and framing.
Authentic vintage studio condition overall. Textured surface showing rich dry-brush pigment application and strong color contrast. Canvas board exhibits minor, natural age-wear along the outer corners and perimeter consistent with age. Back panel is clean with light age toning and an intact, complete vintage Macy's art supply label. Please review all high-resolution photos for close-up details of surface texture and board condition.
