A truly exceptional survivor from the mid-19th century, this antique hat box is brown leather over a sturdy wood frame, finished with a decorative brass buckle, brass fittings, and rivets throughout. The exterior has developed a warm, rich patina over the decades, full of character while remaining remarkably well preserved.
What sets this piece apart is its condition. The original hinge is fully intact, as are the original ribbon holds used to secure the lid, details that are rarely found surviving on boxes of this age. The interior is lined with a low-pile burgundy velvet that remains in excellent condition, with vibrant color and minimal wear.
A wonderful find for collectors of antique accessories, Victorian-era decor, or anyone looking for a striking display piece with genuine history and craftsmanship.
