Elegant 19th-century mahogany tall chest of drawers in the Federal/Neoclassical taste, distinguished by its unusually tall, narrow proportions and substantial light-colored removable marble top.
The chest features seven graduated drawers, finely reeded corner details, paneled sides, brass escutcheons and brass drawer pulls. Raised on slender turned and tapered legs terminating in brass feet.
The rich mahogany has developed a warm, deep color that complements the contrasting marble top beautifully. At approximately 61 inches high while only 15½ inches deep, this is an especially useful antique for a bedroom, dressing area, hallway or other space where substantial storage is desired without a large footprint.
Condition
Good antique condition consistent with age and use. Surface scratches, finish wear, edge wear and other imperfections are present. There is wear and loss around one escutcheon, and the brass hardware shows age and patina. Drawer interiors and secondary surfaces exhibit expected antique wear. Bottom drawer handles replaced.
