Add a striking touch of mid-century expressionism to your space with this captivating oil painting on canvas. The piece is a beautifully rendered homage "After Kees van Dongen", replicating the legendary Dutch-French Fauvist master's iconic 1919 work, The Corn Poppy (Le Coquelicot). It features a highly stylized, melancholic portrait of a woman accented by an oversized, vibrant red hat and structured dark coat set against a warm, textured gold-toned background.
The front of the canvas is signed by the copyist in the lower-right corner, "G. VELTIS". The reverse side preserves its rich European history, showcasing an authentic stencil reading "NAAR KEES VAN DONGEN" (Dutch for "After Kees van Dongen") stamped directly onto the canvas. Additionally, the original wooden stretcher bars feature a manufacturer stamp from the historic art supplier and framing shop, De Meeuw based in Amersfoort, Netherlands. Housed in its original, elegant metallic gold-finish wood frame, this piece beautifully bridges vintage curation with timeless bohemian style.
