The rectangular box … Read more The box measures approximately 7.3 × 19.8 × 17.6 cm (H/W/D) and is made of lacquered wood. The rectangular box features an atmospheric landscape scene on the lid, depicting Mount Fuji, a thatched hut, and two birds in the foreground, accentuated by gold and silver painting. The object originates from Japan and is likely dated to the early 20th century. These lacquerware pieces were traditionally produced at sea, as only there could the dust-free conditions be found that were essential for the delicate lacquer finish. The box is in good condition with slight signs of age and minor wear to the edges. The sides are unadorned and their condition matches the rest of the box. A clasp is present, but a key is missing.
