This work is an … Read more Frederik Vermehren (Ringsted, 1823-1910) created the present work, entitled "Portrait of a Gentleman," probably around 1860. This work is an Old Master-style oil painting on a wooden panel (oil on wood), measuring approximately 14.5 x 15 cm. The expressive subject is an intimate head portrait of an older, distinguished man with rosy cheeks and a friendly, serene gaze. He wears a typical top hat of the period and a brown waistcoat over a white shirt. The fine, highly precise brushwork and the warm, earthy palette of deep browns and soft flesh tones underscore the dignified, vibrant presence of the sitter.
