According to the handwritten signature on the back, Scharloh created the present work, "Untitled," in 1981 (dated differently, 1985, on the attached label). This is an exceptionally reduced and contemplative abstract composition. Executed in the MISCH/PP technique (mixed media on paper and wood, according to the label), the painting measures approximately 100 x 80 cm and captivates with its minimalist formal language, strongly reminiscent of the tradition of American Color Field painting and Art Informel. The large-format picture plane is visually divided into two gently merging vertical zones, with the left side dominated by cool, cloudy grays and the right side by warm, muted pinks and nudes. Subtle, gestural highlights in white and soft yellow, along with a striking, dark brown bar in the lower right corner, create dynamic accents and deliberately disrupt the otherwise calm composition. The impasto brushstrokes, wiping techniques, and multi-layered application of paint create a captivating, almost tactile depth, allowing the viewer ample room for their own emotional associations.
