Antique Japanese lacquer box made of wood (shikki), lacquered black inside and reddish-brown lacquered outside with fine maki decoration. Decorated with birds, plants, and stylized landscape elements. The "Mikado" mark inside is particularly interesting, indicating that it was exported from Japan (approx. early to mid-20th century).
