Münden), collection of six drawings on four sheets, good head studies, male portrait studies in varying degrees of execution, undated, BLEIST/PP, dimensions approx. 21×13.7 cm and three approx. 18.9×12.2 cm, some with writing on both sides. The collection comprises four sheets of intensive figure observation: Sheet 15 shows an older man in right profile with delicate features in restrained, open pencil lines; Sheet 16 shows an expressive head study of a man with bowed head and hand protectively held to his temple, verso a seated man in full-length view; Sheet 17 presents the same perspective—man looking downwards—in a highly developed hatching technique with particular sculptural depth, strong light-shadow contrasts, and an almost painterly density of linework; Sheet 18 shows the same type of image in a more sketchy, less detailed execution; the reverse depicts the same representation on a larger scale, suggesting a systematic development of the same model. The close thematic relationship of the three sheets of the same format (16–18) suggests that they originate from a coherent series of studies of the same model—a rare and valuable insight into Pforr's academic working method. As a master student of Ferdinand von Keller and influenced by Hans Thoma, Pforr developed a profound psychological understanding of the human face, which is impressively manifested in these head studies. Groups of this thematic unity from the documented estate of a North Hessian realist of the early 20th century are rare on the market and of particular interest to collectors.
