Münden), Collection of five drawings on three sheets, "Father Pforr Kitchen Interior Sketches" — domestic interior studies, undated, BLEIST/PP, dimensions approx. 28×20 cm, approx. 11.5×16 cm (both sides) and approx. 12.2×19.5 cm (both sides). The collection shows Pforr from a lesser-known, yet particularly charming side — as an attentive observer of domestic interiors: Sheet 19 is the largest and most elaborate sheet in the collection and shows, in meticulous pencil technique, a window view with potted houseplants, a decorated vase and architectural elements of the window frame — an atmospheric still life in the interior with warm light streaming in through the window; Sheet 20, rendered in quicker lines, depicts a room interior with a table, a hanging jacket and hat, and a mirror or picture on the wall; verso shows a study of a man. Sheet 21, in landscape format, shows a seated or leaning man in a living room with suggested wainscoting; verso shows a scene with figures moving about. These interior sketches demonstrate Pforr's ability to convincingly capture domestic atmosphere and spatial depth with simple means—a quality that places him in the tradition of the North German Realists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Interior studies from the documented estate of Heinrich Pforr are rare on the art market and add an intimate, domestic dimension to the artist's well-known figurative work.
