These low, … Read more A sculptural pair of mid-century cast concrete Japanese garden lanterns by Capitol Ornamental Concrete Specialties, model J 551. These low, wide forms reinterpret the classic Yukimi-gata (“snow viewing”) lantern — traditionally placed near water to catch soft reflected light.

Each lantern features a broad mushroom shaped top with pierced window openings on a three-leg base creating a soft architectural presence. The surfaces show beautiful, honest patina from decades outdoors: one with mossy gray green tones, the other with warm buff and pale mineral bloom. Structurally sound, with age-appropriate wear that enhances their wabi-sabi character. See less
