A mid-century modern ceramic mantel vase by shorter & son, produced in england during the 1950s and finished in a soft cream satin glaze. The moulded vase has a distinctive boat-shaped, sculptural profile, with its elongated body sweeping upwards to pronounced points at either end. A series of raised circular motifs extends across the exterior, introducing a restrained geometric relief against the otherwise smooth surface. The broad horizontal form is elevated on a moulded pedestal foot, giving the vase a balanced architectural presence. Model 687, the vase bears impressed shorter & son markings to the underside, together with registered design information. In good vintage condition with light surface wear and scuffs consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing to the glazed interior caused by the original metal flower frog, which is not included. Dimensions: h 17 cm / 6.7 in × w 28 cm / 11 in × d 8.5 cm / 3.3 in.
