This rare ceramic bowl was designed by carl-harry stålhane and produced by rörstrand in sweden, one of the foremost manufacturers of scandinavian ceramics during the 20th century. The bowl exemplifies stålhane’s refined control of form and glaze, with a balanced, gently curved profile that tapers toward a narrow, slightly raised foot. This subtle elevation gives the piece a sense of lightness and poise while maintaining structural solidity. The surface is characterized by a richly textured blue glaze, varying in tone from deep cobalt to lighter, almost silvery shades, reflecting the depth and complexity typical of stålhane’s work during his mature period at rörstrand. The glaze application creates a dynamic surface that responds to light, emphasizing both the texture and the subtle modulation of color across the form. Carl-harry stålhane, who succeeded gunnar nylund as artistic director at rörstrand in the 1950s, was instrumental in elevating swedish studio ceramics with his explorations of glaze chemistry, minimalist forms, and japanese-influenced aesthetics. His work is noted for its precision and restraint, often favoring quiet, tactile surfaces over overt decoration. The underside of the bowl is signed, confirming its authenticity and production origin. The piece remains in excellent vintage condition, free from chips or cracks, with a well-preserved glaze that maintains its visual depth. This bowl reflects the sophisticated balance of artistry and functionality that defined stålhane’s contribution to scandinavian ceramic design.
