The slender baluster-form vase features two finely rendered landscape reserves depicting mountainous scenery, pine trees and traditional Chinese architecture in soft brown, gray and subtle orange tones. Delicate cobalt-blue butterflies and floral motifs encircle the neck and sides, creating an especially attractive contrast against the translucent white porcelain.

The exceptionally thin porcelain body is characteristic of the eggshell-style wares for which Jingdezhen is well known. A flared mouth and restrained blue borders complete the elegant form.

The vase retains its red-and-black patterned presentation/storage box with an applied calligraphic paper label. The box shows considerable age-related wear but is an appealing part of the piece’s history and will accompany the vase.
