A wonderful early 20th-century Library Bureau Sole Makers modular oak filing and storage cabinet, retaining its original maker's plaque, period brass hardware, label holders and beautifully aged finish.

This unusual example is constructed as a five-piece stackable system, allowing the individual components to be separated and reconfigured or easily transported. When assembled, the varying depths of the sections create a distinctive stepped architectural profile.

The lower section features an exceptionally deep storage/file drawer set upon a four-legged base. Above is an enclosed storage compartment with a hinged door, followed by a bank of three shallow document drawers and a finished oak top.

The oak displays beautiful grain and a rich, warm surface developed through decades of use. Original brass drawer pulls, label holders and hardware contribute to the authentic institutional character of the piece.

Library Bureau was an important American manufacturer of specialized library, office and institutional furniture, and its modular cabinetry is particularly desirable today for its combination of craftsmanship, functionality and industrial design.

A striking and highly functional antique for a library, study, home office, loft or commercial interior. The variety of drawer and cabinet sizes provides excellent storage while maintaining a relatively narrow 19-inch footprint.

The 24" depth reflects the deepest lower section. The upper cabinet and drawer sections are approximately 16" deep.

Condition
Good antique condition with substantial authentic age-related patina and surface wear consistent with its original institutional use.

The oak exhibits scratches, scuffs, finish wear, marks, discoloration and variations throughout. These characteristics have been retained rather than refinished and contribute significantly to the character of the piece. Drawer insides have staining from art supplies, paint and ink. There are no smells - just some staining.
