An exceptional piece of late 19th-century French barbotine/majolica, this footed tazza or compote bowl was crafted by the renowned French manufacture Hippolyte Boulenger & Cie at Choisy-le-Roi.
The shallow scalloped bowl features vibrant relief-molded pansy blossoms in shades of magenta, golden yellow, and blush pink with deep green leaves set against a warm cream ground. Delicate green stems extend toward the center bowl. The underside clearly bears the historic stamped mark: "HB & Cie Choisy-le-Roi FRANCE".
Compotes and footed serving pieces in this popular Choisy-le-Roi pansy pattern are considerably rarer than the standard flat plates, making this a standout piece for majolica collectors and French country decor enthusiasts alike.
