Established in Taxco in 1987, Zanfeld created this highly sculptural interpretation of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of beauty and love. The fragmented female torso is rendered with deliberately irregular, almost excavated edges, juxtaposing smooth anatomical surfaces with highly textured passages. The contrasting treatments give the sculpture a compelling archaeological quality while maintaining a distinctly late-20th-century modernist sensibility.

The figure is constructed from cast resin with a .925 sterling silver surface, combining areas of softly brushed silver with more polished sections. Darkened recesses and the dramatically textured reverse further emphasize the fragmented composition and create considerable visual depth. The sculpture is mounted on a substantial rectangular black stone base, providing a strong architectural counterpoint to the fluidity of the figure.

The piece retains its applied Zanfeld .925 silver medallion, documenting its Mexican manufacture and silver content.
