An atmospheric antique landscape print after British painter Benjamin Williams Leader (1831–1923), depicting his 1901 composition A Gleam Before the Storm.
The pastoral scene captures a picturesque thatched cottage nestled among mature trees beside a quiet body of water, with distant countryside beneath a dramatic, changing sky. Subtle greens, blues, ochres and earthy neutrals give the landscape a beautifully softened character and the romantic quality associated with Leader’s celebrated English landscapes.
The image bears “B.W. Leader 1901” at the lower left, corresponding to the signature and date of the original composition. An older identification label retained on the reverse reads “Artist: Leader” and “Title: Gleam before the Storm,” No. 245.
Presented under glass with a wide cream-toned mat and slender gilt-finished frame. At approximately 35 inches wide, the piece has substantial presence and would work particularly well in a traditional, English country, cottage, collected or transitional interior.
Please note that this is a print after Leader’s original painting, not the original B.W. Leader painting.
