A substantial handmade pottery vase by Kenneth George of Cole’s Pottery in Sanford, North Carolina, part of the celebrated multigenerational Cole pottery tradition.
The vessel features a classic amphora-inspired form with a rounded body, dramatically flared rim and two graceful applied handles. A rich, glossy brown glaze highlights the hand-thrown form and natural variations of the clay and firing.
The underside is hand-signed Kenneth George, inscribed Sanford, N.C., and bears the impressed Cole Pottery mark.
Kenneth George worked within the historic Cole pottery tradition in Sanford, continuing generations of North Carolina pottery making. His work is represented in the permanent collection of the North Carolina Pottery Center.
With its generous scale and strong symmetrical form, this piece displays beautifully as a standalone decorative vessel or as part of a collection of Southern and North Carolina studio pottery.
