The oval well is worked in dense low relief with quail, ferns, and leafy branches, framed by a twisted rope border and feather-patterned rim. Signed and dated on the reverse: ARTHUR COURT COPYRIGHTED ACH 1986.

Arthur Court is a San Francisco designer and metalsmith who began working in aluminum in the late 1960s. His pieces are known for naturalistic animal forms and hand-finished repoussé detail, drawing on Art Nouveau's organic line, and have been collected for decades as sculptural serveware. This one works equally well holding bread or cheese, styled on a sideboard, or hung on the wall. See less
