A beautiful vintage Herend Hungary tea and coffee service in the celebrated Queen Victoria VBO pattern, dating to 1980. Each piece is hand-painted with Herend's exuberant florals, peonies and butterflies, accented by sculptural details and elegant gold-gilt borders.
Queen Victoria is one of Herend's most iconic patterns, originating with the decoration exhibited at London's Great Exhibition of 1851. The pattern became famously associated with Queen Victoria after she ordered a service for Windsor Castle.
VBO stands for "Victoria avec Bord en Or" — Queen Victoria with Gold Border.
The service includes:
• Large Scalloped Serving Tray – Form 420/VBO
Approx. 11 3/8" across, with a deeply scalloped border, butterflies, peonies, floral sprays and gilt edging.
• Covered Coffee Pot – Form 7643/VBO
Approx. 8" high to the finial, with a sculptural green branch-style handle, decorated spout and delicate hand-formed yellow rose finial.
• Covered Sugar Bowl – Form 1663/VBO
Approx. 3 3/4" high, with a domed cover and hand-formed pink rose finial.
• Creamer / Milk Jug – Form 7612/VBO
Approx. 4" high, with a scalloped pouring rim, green branch-style handle and gilt edging.
Pieces bear the blue HEREND / HUNGARY / HANDPAINTED factory mark together with their hand-painted form and VBO pattern numbers.
CONDITION:
Exceptional vintage condition. The particularly delicate applied porcelain rose finials on both covered pieces remain fully intact. No chips, cracks, flea bites, crazing or repairs observed. The hand-painted decoration remains beautifully preserved, and the gilding is bright with no significant visible loss. The serving tray shows no notable utensil marks observed.
