Its rectangular structure, reinforced by black metal brackets and dovetail joints, testifies to demanding craftsmanship, designed to withstand journeys by train, ocean liner, or horse-drawn carriage. The wood, polished by time, still bears the marks of wear and handling, while the forged metal side handles retain the raw strength of utilitarian objects of yesteryear. On the top and front, the name P. Tessier, stenciled in white letters, affirms the identity of its owner and lends the piece an almost military or bureaucratic air. At the front, two functional locks with keys reinforce the impression of a precious object, designed to protect personal or professional belongings. A vintage shipping label, partially torn but still legible, suggests a journey to Nantes, adding a documentary and poetic dimension to this trunk, which appears as much as a piece of furniture as a fragment of history, imbued with travels, destinations, and lives lived.
