A substantial Danish oak writing desk attributed to Henning Kjærnulf, produced in the 1970s and bringing together the clean proportions, warm oak construction, and practical storage organization that define his best work. At nearly 56 inches long, it occupies the scale of a serious working desk — generous enough for a real work surface, resolved enough to read as furniture rather than equipment. Six side drawers, a locking center drawer with its original key, and open back shelving with an adjustable center shelf give it a storage format that works as well for a home library as a dedicated study.
The kneehole is well-proportioned and comfortable at 24 inches wide and nearly 24 inches high. The back shelves offer display and reference storage without adding visual weight. The top has been refinished at some point and presents cleanly; the balance of the desk retains its original hard wax oil finish — a warm, low-sheen surface that is characteristic of quality Danish production pieces of the period. Minor scuffs throughout, most noticeable on the back shelves, and a few minor water spots to the top. Unmarked.
