This impressive and now highly sought after model reflects the moment in Dutch industrial design when clarity of construction, economy of material and a distinctly architectural aesthetic converged. Rietveld’s Pyramid series was conceived for functional, intensive daily use, yet the table’s graphic structure and intelligent engineering elevate it far beyond utilitarian furniture. with its striking V shaped frame in dark grey painted metal, the piece carries a strong visual rhythm that immediately recalls the sculptural pragmatism of Jean Prouvé’s compass leg designs, which similarly exposed the beauty of structural logic. The table remains in good and fully original condition, with an appealing and honest patina that testifies to decades of use. The surface wear is consistent with age and gives the piece the kind of character that only industrial furniture acquires over time. Importantly, the frame has not twisted or bent, demonstrating both the durability of Ahrend de Cirkel’s production and the soundness of Rietveld’s engineering.

The original Formica top, measuring 140 by 70 centimeters, complements the frame beautifully and sits slightly narrower than the base. This proportion is intentional, as the Pyramid series was designed to be stackable, making the wider stance of the frame an essential functional feature. The structure is marked Ahrend de Cirkel, confirming its authenticity. In 1960 the Pyramid table received the Signe d’Or, one of the most prestigious design awards in the Benelux region at the time. Granted only four times between 1956 and 1960, the award recognized groundbreaking industrial design and highlights the cultural significance of this model. A rare and iconic piece with clear echoes of Prouvé’s celebrated compass tables, this Pyramid table stands as a beautifully aged and structurally expressive example of mid-century Dutch design.
