This is for a rare postmodern delerium yum table lamp designed by ingo maurer and manufactured in germany 2006. This extremely rare light sculpture belongs to the brief and now legendary chapter in maurer’s oeuvre when he explored the poetic tension between technology, water and light. Produced only for a very short period, delerium yum disappeared from the market almost as soon as it arrived, immediately transforming it into a sought after collector’s piece. Few examples were ever sold, and even fewer remain in untouched condition. The example offered here comes from old store stock, complete with its original manual, and has never been privately owned.
the lamp’s construction is a precisely balanced combination of corian, crystal glass and an aluminum mirror. Within the tall glass cylinder, a refined internal mechanism sets water into motion. A small bar at the bottom generates a rising swirl, driven by magnetic impulses that spin the bar in adjustable intervals. Light and movement can be tuned independently, allowing the piece to shift mood from calm to hypnotic. At the surface floats the small ball that defines the sculpture’s visual center, illuminated by a warm 35 watt halogen bulb in a gu4 socket, powered through an external transformer. A discreet internal motor of 15 watts drives the kinetic choreography. Delerium yum invites many s. It is a table lamp, a kinetic artwork, a moving water sculpture and an interior conversation piece. The reflected light on the aluminum disc, the gentle vertical vortex and the purity of the materials give it a sense of quiet theatre that is unmistakably maurer. His long fascination with immateriality, visual magic and experimentation reaches a rare and intimate form here. For collectors of his work, and for anyone who values design objects that live between function and art, this is a unique opportunity to become the very first private owner of a piece that is nearly impossible to find today.
