Newly … Read more An antique pair of antique hand-painted ceramic table lamps by the renowned Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (PZH) from Gouda, circa 1918. Newly rewired with custom brass fittings and fabric wrapped cords. Paired with new pleated warm cream silk lampshades. Plugs for US or country of use. Height includes lampshades.

Gouda pottery is collected because of its unique painting and the precise marking — the underside of each base gives the Lazarus Gate mark, the model number, the name of the decor and the painter's monogram, read here as Gerarda Johanna Lugthart.

The decoration covers the waisted form edge to edge in rust, ochre, lavender-blue and soft green over a cream ground, under the matte glaze the factory had adopted a few years earlier. The date puts them at the far end of Nieuwe Kunst, the Dutch Art Nouveau, which stayed leaner and more disciplined than the French version and outlasted it by years.
