A magnificent pair of ceramic perulas from Triana or Lucena, made of glazed earthenware with a glossy green finish. They are presented on a highly ornamented wrought iron base, primarily featuring small spirals.
The vessels consist of a large bulbous body and a narrow neck that ends in a small spout to facilitate pouring the stored liquid. The pieces are a bright, slightly coppery green, characteristic of ceramic perulas. This color comes from the minerals used in their production, which provide durability and resistance.
Perulas are a type of vessel produced specifically in Andalusia, as this is traditionally the region with the highest concentration of olive oil production in the country, although their creation dates back to Roman times. Specifically, this type of vessel was typically produced in the Jaén, Lucena (Córdoba), and Triana areas of Seville, using clay from the Guadalquivir River. They are primarily used for storing olive oil, although they could also be used to store wine or transport liquids. They represent a small fragment of the history and tradition of southern Spain.
