It has a Regency Chinoiserie style with a lady holding a lute. The wide rim has blue floral transferware.

A rare item.

It is almost 200 years old and as such has some marks commensurate with age. It was clearly used as part of a dinner service and has knife scratch marks on it as well as rim wear and a chip (see photo 9).

History:
Around 1830, in a small town in the Rhône region of France, Decaen launched a fine earthenware business. Nine years later, he acquired a nearby factory in Grigny. In 1867, the new owners of Grigny were the Duneault-Motte family.
Decaen was an innovator, his pieces were initially very simple: undecorated, his square bowls with lobed rims and his ewers were valued solely for the elegance of their forms. The most common pieces were decorated with a thin blue garland, in the style of Tournai porcelain.
